SPECIAL ISSUE: ÒARTIFICIAL BRAINSÓ
GuestEditors Prof. Dr. Hugo de Garis (Executive Editor of the Journal of Artificial GeneralIntelligence (JAGI)), and Prof. Dr. John G. Taylor (European Chief Editor ofthe Neural Networks journal) invite you to submit an article for review to aspecial issue of the Neurocomputing journal, on the theme of ÒArtificial BrainsÓ.
Backgroundof Special Issue
MooreÕsLaw has made possible large clusters of PCs, increasingly powerful supercomputers, and more powerful FPGA based accelerator boards, etc. -- thus allowing buildersof Òartificial brainsÓ more electronic capacity to pursue their goals. At thesame time, neuroscientists have provided increasingly detailed accounts of theanatomy and functions of the many cortical areas of the mammalian brain. Thismarriage of computer science and neuroscience is making the construction of ÒartificialbrainsÓ ever more timely, e.g. MarkramÕs efforts at EPFL (Switzerland) to modelthe function of a cortical column at synaptic level, or Artificial Development(AD) companyÕs efforts to simulate the whole human cortex on a PC cluster. Theguest editors therefore feel that the moment has come to bring these disparateefforts together in a special issue on ÒArtificial BrainsÓ.
Aboutthe Special Issue
Theguest editors will accept a fairly broad interpretation of what is meant by theterm ÒArtificial BrainÓ. The following list provides some possibleinterpretations:
